Scans & schedules

A scan runs the full check suite against one connected account. The Scans page has two tabs: Scans, one paged list of every run across the workspace's accounts, and Schedules, one card per account that scans on a recurring basis. Whenever a scan is active, a band above the tabs shows its live progress, so you never have to go looking for it.

Reading the Scans list

The list is filtered by status chips that carry a count each: All, Queued, Running, Completed, Failed, and Cancelled. A Queued scan has been launched but is still waiting for a scanner to pick it up; it shows "Waiting for a scanner" rather than a stuck 0%. Failed and Cancelled are kept apart: a Cancelled scan was stopped on purpose and produced no findings, which is not the same as a run that failed. A failed run says why in one phrase under its pill, so you know whether it is yours to fix before opening it.

Every run shows two moments, because they are never the same: Queued, when the scan was requested (by you or by its schedule), and Started, when a scanner actually picked it up. Under Started the list says how long the run sat in the queue first; a run that is still queued shows how long it has been waiting instead, in amber, so a stuck queue is visible from the list. The scan detail adds the third moment, Completed, and names each gap on its timeline: the queue wait under Started, the run length under the outcome.

Narrow the list further by cloud account or by trigger, or search by alias or account. The chips, the filters, the page and the tab all live in the address bar, so a filtered view is a link you can paste to a colleague, and the browser's Back button walks between views. The list shows 25 runs a page.

How scans are triggered

Scans are available on the Pro plan:

TriggerBehavior
Run nowLaunch immediately against any account from Launch scan
Daily scheduleThe launch dialog's Every day choice, or Scan every day on the connect wizard's Scanning step, runs the suite every 24 hours

Schedules

The Schedules tab lists your recurring jobs, one card per account, each with its cadence, the countdown to the next run, and the last seven runs as coloured squares so a flaky account stands out. Open a card for the schedule's detail: the next run, the paged run history (any run opens its own scan detail), the failed-checks trend across recent runs, and when the schedule was created. Run now on a card launches an immediate scan of that account.

On the Free plan each account shows a Weekly card for the automatic scan your plan includes. It runs 7 days after the workspace's last completed scan, so the card shows that date, or due now once it has passed. The daily schedule and on-demand runs are Pro features.

An organization admin can turn the weekly scan off from the card's detail with the Weekly scan switch. While it is off the card reads Weekly scan off with no next run, and Argus starts no weekly scan for the workspace; it stays off across sign-ins until an admin turns it back on, and then the 7-day rule resumes. Connecting an account still runs its first scan.

Scan configuration is deliberately minimal today: a daily cadence, with the time of day set automatically. Custom cron-style schedules are not offered yet.

Turning a daily scan off

Open the account's card and use the Schedule on switch in its detail. Argus asks you to confirm, then shows the schedule as turning off… until it is gone, which usually takes about a minute. The card then disappears and Argus no longer scans that account on its own. Past runs stay in the scan history, and a scan that is already running finishes. Only an admin of the workspace can turn a schedule off.

A workspace that moved from Pro to Free keeps any daily schedule it set up on Pro, and those accounts show their Daily card instead of the weekly one, with the same switch to turn the daily scan off. Once it is off, the account goes back to the weekly scan the Free plan includes.

To turn it back on, click New schedule, pick the account and choose Every day. A first scan starts right away, then Argus scans the account every day. Each of those scans counts toward your usage like any other.

Launching a scan

Click Launch scan, pick the account, and optionally give the run an alias, for example Pre-release audit. Rename it later with Edit scan alias. Choose Run now or Every day; on the Free plan Every day is shown marked Pro and cannot be chosen. Opening the dialog from the Schedules tab starts it in schedule mode.

In-progress runs show a live progress bar in the band, the list row, and the detail. A run's duration depends on the number of services and regions in use in the account.

Acting on a completed scan

Open any scan for its detail. A completed scan leads with the result: failed checks (with the change since the account's previous scan), passed checks, and resources scanned. The list itself keeps two numbers per row, Resources and Failed checks; the pass count and the proportion live in the detail. The actions menu on each row offers:

  • Edit scan alias. Rename the run.
  • View findings. Open Findings filtered to exactly this scan.
  • View compliance. Open Compliance scoped to this scan.
  • Download report. A ZIP with the full results. Reports are generated on demand. A just-finished scan may answer "still generating" for a moment before the download starts.

Scans are the unit of history

Findings, deltas, and compliance scores are all per scan:

  • The Findings page's New and Changed delta filter compares a finding against the previous scan of the same account.
  • The Compliance page reads the latest completed scan by default, and a scan selector reads posture against any completed run.
  • The resource list reads the most recent 7 days of scan results; findings are read per scan and are kept for the life of the account.
